Together with the National Library of Ireland, Architectural Press presents seventy previously unpublished drawings by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The identification in the National Library of Ireland of three sketchbooks, from which these drawings have been selected, represents a significant addition to the body of early drawings by Mackintosh. The sketches date from a crucial period in the young man's development, spanning his highly successful student years and the beginnings of his professional career. Each of the three sketchbooks covers an area central to his growth as an artist: the architecture of his native Scotland, an important scholarship journey in Italy and, Mackintosh's first love and greatest influence, the study of plants and growing things. Essentially private, these little known and unique works provide privileged access to significant moments in the artist's intellectual and emotional life. In this book Elaine Grogan attempts to take them out of the library display-case and bring them to life in the hands of the reader. She invites us to look over Mackintosh's shoulder on his early tentative steps towards fulfilment as a creative genius. Connections are traced, both backwards in time to his training and forwards to his great successes and eventual bitter eclipse.

#1 New York Times bestseller for 13 consecutive weeks! First published in 1952, Witness is the true story of Soviet spies in America and the trial that captivated a nation. Part literary effort, part philosophical treatise, this intriguing autobiography recounts the famous Alger Hiss case and reveals much more. Chambers' worldview and his belief that "man without mysticism is a monster" went on to help make political conservatism a national force. Regnery History's Cold War Classics edition is the most comprehensive version of Witness ever published, featuring forewords collected from all previous editions, including discussions from luminaries William F. Buckley Jr., Robert D. Novak, Milton Hindus, and Alfred S. Regnery.

Randolph, Sir John, and Barradall, Edward, Reporters. Barton, R.T., Editor. Virginia Colonial Decisions: The Reports of Decisions of the General Court of Virginia 1728-1741. Edited, with Historical Introduction. Boston: the Boston Book Company, 1909. Two volumes. xxviii, 250, 118; 394 pp. Frontispiece. Reprint available March 2005 by the Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. ISBN 1-58477-510-6. Cloth. $175. * These volumes contain all of the decided cases of colonial Virginia's chief court reported by Randolph [c.1693-1737] and Barradall [1704-1743]. Excepting a few cases reported later by Thomas Jefferson and William Hopkins, these are all of the cases reported during the colonial period. Invaluable sources for the early history of American law, Barton commends these reports for "the picture they give of [Virginia's] colonial period in all its shades and aspects" and their ability to "make the observer see what the more detailed narrative of history fails to tell" (Preface iv). This set is further enriched by Barton's 250-page introduction, which outlines the legal system of colonial Virginia and sets the reports in their social context.
