A comprehensive overview of fluid dynamic models and experimental results that can help solve problems in centrifugal compressors and modern techniques for a more efficient aerodynamic design. Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors isacomprehensive overview of the theoretical fluid dynamic models describing the flow in centrifugal compressors and the modern techniques for the design of more efficient centrifugal compressors. The author — a noted expert in the field, with over 40 years of experience — evaluates relevant numerical and analytical prediction models for centrifugal compressors with special attention to their accuracy and limitations. Relevant knowledge from the last century is linked with new insights obtained from modern CFD. Emphasis is to link the flow structure, performance and stability to the geometry of the different compressor components. Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors is an accessible resource that combines theory with experimental data and previous research with recent developments in computational design and optimization. This important resource Covers the basic information concerning fluid dynamics that are specific for centrifugal compressors and clarifies the differences with axial compressors Provides an overview of performance prediction models previously developed in combination with extra results from research conducted by the author Describes helpful numerical and analytical models for the flow in the different components in relation to flow stability, operating range and performance Includes the fundamental information for the aerodynamic design of more efficient centrifugal compressors Explains the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the design and analysis of centrifugal compressors Written for engineers, researchers and designers in industry as well as for academics specializing in the field, Design and Analysis of Centrifugal Compressors offers an up to date overview of the information needed for the design of more effective centrifugal compressors.

“Process Plant Equipment Book is another greatpublication from Wiley as a reference book for final year studentsas well as those who will work or are working in chemicalproduction plants and refinery…” -Associate Prof.Dr. Ramli Mat, Deputy Dean (Academic), Faculty of ChemicalEngineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia “…give[s] readers access to both fundamentalinformation on process plant equipment and to practical ideas, bestpractices and experiences of highly successful engineers fromaround the world… The book is illustrated throughout withnumerous black & white photos and diagrams and also containscase studies demonstrating how actual process plants haveimplemented the tools and techniques discussed in the book. Anextensive list of references enables readers to explore eachindividual topic in greater depth…”–Stainless Steel World and Valve World, November 2012 Discover how to optimize process plant equipment, fromselection to operation to troubleshooting From energy to pharmaceuticals to food, the world depends onprocessing plants to manufacture the products that enable people tosurvive and flourish. With this book as their guide, readers havethe information and practical guidelines needed to select, operate, maintain, control, and troubleshoot process plant equipment so thatit is efficient, cost-effective, and reliable throughout itslifetime. Following the authors' careful explanations andinstructions, readers will find that they are better able to reducedowntime and unscheduled shutdowns, streamline operations, andmaximize the service life of processing equipment. Process Plant Equipment: Operation, Control, andReliability is divided into three sections: Section One: Process Equipment Operations covers suchkey equipment as valves, pumps, cooling towers, conveyors, andstorage tanks Section Two: Process Plant Reliability sets forth avariety of tested and proven tools and methods to assess and ensurethe reliability and mechanical integrity of process equipment, including failure analysis, Fitness-for-Service assessment, engineering economics for chemical processes, and process componentfunction and performance criteria Section Three: Process Measurement, Control, andModeling examines flow meters, process control, and processmodeling and simulation Throughout the book, numerous photos and diagrams illustrate theoperation and control of key process equipment. There are also casestudies demonstrating how actual process plants have implementedthe tools and techniques discussed in the book. At the end of eachchapter, an extensive list of references enables readers to exploreeach individual topic in greater depth. In summary, this text offers students, process engineers, andplant managers the expertise and technical support needed tostreamline and optimize the operation of process plant equipment, from its initial selection to operations to troubleshooting.

Over recent years there have been substantial changes in those industries which are concerned with the design, purchase and use of special purpose (ie critical, high-revenue) rotating equipment. Key personnel have been the victims of early retirement or have moved to other industries: contractors and end-users have reduced their technical staff and consequently have to learn complex material 'from scratch'. As a result, many companies are finding that they are devoting unnecessary man hours to the discovery and explanation of basic principles, and having to explain these to clients who should already be aware of them. In addition, the lack of understanding by contractors and users of equipment characteristics and operating systems often results in a 'wrong fit' and a costly reliability problem. Forsthoffer's Rotating Equipment Handbooks: Compressors provides detailed coverage of characteristics, types, operation in a process system, (using the concept of required and produced gas head) performance relationships, selection, what determines the turbo compressor curve shape, surge/stall/stonewall, the effects of fouling, the design basis of journal and thrust bearings, balance drums, seals, critical speeds, control and protection guidelines, series and parallel operation, component condition monitoring, troubleshooting and many other aspects. Forsthoffer's Rotating Equipment Handbook: Compressors is the third title in the five volume set. The volumes are: 1. Fundamentals of Rotaing Equipment; 2. Pumps; 3. Compressors; 4. Auxiliary Systems; 5. Reliability Optimization through Component Condition Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis'. * One of a five volume set which is the distillation of many years of on-site training by a well-known US Engineer who also operates in the Middle East. * A Practical book written in a succinct style and well illustrated throughout.

This textbook deals with the fundamental principles of fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer. The basic equations governing the convective transfer by fluid motion of matter, energy and momentum, and the transfer of the same properties by diffusion of molecular motion, are presented at the outset. These concepts are then applied systematically to the study of fluid dynamics in an engineering context and to the parallel investigation of heat and mass transfer processes. The influence of viscosity and the dominant role of turbulence in fluid motion are emphasised. Individual chapters are concerned with the important subjects of boundary layers, flow in pipes and ducts, gas dynamics, and flow in turbo-machinery and of a liquid with a free surface. Later chapters cover some of the special types of flow and transfer process encountered in chemical engineering applications, including two-phase flow, condensation, evaporation, flow in packed beds and fluidized solids.
