A mix of experiences that you will feel, emotions to make you smile, cry, laugh, and sometimes, weep. Who knows where my poems may take you or what emotions you will feel. The Journey has just begun and will venture through the many unpublished poems yet to come. Some will make you think in thought-provoking ways, others will astound you with the twists. Other poems will make you relate to the experiences you may have had or felt in situations of your life. So the journey begins. This book I wrote for children of all ages from 9 to 99. I hope they are deemed suitable for those who read it. Obviously there has to be some parent guidance for those who are at a very young age. There's a whole range of different experiences that I guess most people will and can be able tolerate to, my sense of humor can sometimes get me into all sorts of trouble and I guess that's why I see the funny side of life. The way I see it is that life can throw an awful lot of trials and tribulations any given time, and let's face it I have had my share of them. Any way kids please enjoy what I have written, and parents if you feel any of the poems are unsuitable please don't read them to the children. The Poems are mainly for older children and teenagers, I hope they make you all understand and maybe smile. Many thanks Terry.

The book, Poems for Children has been written and compiled by the well-known and acclaimed writer, J.M Mehta. Most of the poems listed in the book have been written by schoolchildren in the age group of 6 to 14 years and is exclusively meant for them, though it can be read and enjoyed by all. When small children with their innocence express their thoughts and feelings in verse, it comes straight from their hearts, without any fear or favour, making the poems all the more expressive and thought provoking. However, some of the poems included in this book have been penned down by the author himself and a few have been extracted from the works of renowned poets. The poems cover a wide variety of subjects which encompass feelings of love, respect and friendship for their parents, teachers, companions, countrymen, etc. and also reflect the expression of interest in things or issues which children generally come across during their childhood or in the school environment. The language used throughout the book is very simple and easily understandable, keeping in mind the school-going kids. Coming directly from the hearts and minds of young children, these poems, no doubt provide a spontaneous source of delight, amusement, information, education, inspiration and general pleasure for all the readers, irrespective of age, sex, religion or nationality. So readers, enjoy reading each one of them as there is a definite message hidden in all the poems waiting to be deciphered....

In the Oxford Companion to Children's Literature it says of James Reeves, 'His real achievement, however, lies in his poetry, which is generally regarded as the best British ''serious'' children's verse since Walter de la Mare - though the poems are usually far from serious in subject-matter.' In this complete edition, first published in 1973, the delight is two-fold as the poems are complemented by Edward Ardizzone's beautiful and witty illustrations.
