When one person dares to speak her truth, it challenges us all to live our own. With Red Hot and Holy, Sera Beak offers a provocative and intimate view of what it means to get up close and personal with the divine in modern times. With a rare combination of audacious wit, scholarly acumen, and tender vulnerability—vibrantly mixed with red wine, rock songs, tattoos, and erotic encounters—Sera candidly chronicles the highs and lows of her mystical journey. From the innocence of her childhood crush on God; through a whirlwind of torrid liaisons and bitter break-ups with Christianity, Buddhism, Sufism, Hinduism, and the New Age; and finally into committed monogamy with her own Red Hot and Holy Goddess, Sera shares transformative insights, encouraging us all to trust our unique path and ignite our own spiritual love affair. Sera Beak's luscious writing and renegade spiritual wisdom that slices through religious and new age dogma made her debut book The Red Book a breakout success. With Red Hot and Holy she offers a far more personal book—an illuminating, hilarious, and above all utterly honest portrait of the heart-opening process of mystical realization. This hot and holy book invites you to embrace your soul, unleash your true Self, and burn, baby, burn with divine love. Excerpt As a child, I was madly in love with God. Gaga for God. In grade school, I used to write “I (heart) God” at the top of all my homework assignments and in the margins of the notes I passed to my girlfriends about which boys we thought were cute. Next to The Little Princess, a children’s bible was kept on my bedside table for nightly reading. Miracles? Prophetic dreams? Angels? Healing the sick? Sign me up for those gigs! And every Thursday I believed J.C. dropped by my bedroom so I could ask him personal questions and tell him which sister was annoying me the most. I was magnetized to rosaries, prayers, and pyramids the way other kids were to doughnuts, MTV and the Cabbage Patch Kids, and every time I saw a religious figure (priest, nun, Buddhist monk, Hare Krishna) out in public, it would take an enormous amount of willpower not to stalk them. When Career Days at school would come around, my questionnaire would look a little something like this: Favorite subject? God Favorite hobby? God What do you want to be when you grow up? God (Okay, there was a brief time when I was six years old when the answer to that last question was “an albino.” I thought albinism would make me glow in the dark.) When I was a child, God was not a belief of a magical Santa Claus type. He was as real as my heart. I felt Him (inside me). I recognized Him (everywhere). I knew Him (personally). We hung out together, and I never wanted our rendezvous to stop. I only wanted us to draw closer. I assumed I was experiencing what many Catholics refer to as “the call” to be a priest, so I matter-of-factly informed my parish priests and Sunday school teachers of my future vocation. They laughed, patted my head, and told me I couldn’t have heard the call to be a priest because I had a vagina. Okay, they didn’t say that last part, but believe me, it was implied. They did tell me that only men were allowed to be priests because Jesus only had male disciples (to which Mary Magdalene juts out her left hip and slaps her round cheek with The Gospel of Mary Magdalene). But, of course, I could always be a nun.

This book explores Evelyn Underhill's spirituality for daily living by describing aspects of her life and writings that are relevant for contemporary Christians in their daily living. It combines scholarly research and pastoral applications. The first part focuses on three influences on her life: experiences and images, her study of the mystics, and her work with spiritual guides. The second part discusses Underhill's spirituality for daily living based on a study of her letters, retreats, and other spiritual writings. The third part presents her legacy for the third millennium: her study of mysticism, her spiritual guidance, and her spirituality for daily living. This work highlights aspects of her life with which readers may identify, for example: her own return to the Anglican communion after fourteen years; her ecumenical dialogue with the Orthodox church and her lifelong attraction to the mystical and sacramental aspect of Roman Catholicism; her study of Sufi mystics bringing her into interfaith dialogue; her pacifist stance in World War II; and her prophetic contribution to the Anglican church as a woman spiritual director, retreat preacher, theologian, spiritual writer, and spiritual resource for today.

Love Matters for Psychic Transformation is woven by a profound respect and love for the soul and the transformative powers of the Body Psyche. It is an exploration of the embodied psychic transformation in the specific context of the BodySoul Rhythms® work (BSR) developed by Ann Skinner, Mary Hamilton, and Marion Woodman. In describing the BSR work, interviewing six women about their experiences, and linking the BSR approach with the new neuroscience, developmental psychology, change in therapy, attachment theory, and relational trauma, Dr. Reinau brings to light all that the BSR approach has to offer. It is with relief and pleasure that I write this endorsement. Relief comes because someone with clarity, accuracy, and care has outlined the “consonants” of the work of BSR. Pleasure because the “vowels” of the work have been explored in an authentic voice from an open heart, with a keen intelligence, and from several well-studied points of view. Once again Maja Reinau has put on her diving costume, gone down, and this time surfaced with the pearl: Love Matters in Psychic Transformation. Thank you Maja. –Ann Skinner, co-creator of Body Soul Rhythms Love Matters For Psychic Transformation is a gift to the many women who have benefited from the BSR-work. Dr. Reinau is able to delve deeply into the methodology of BodySoul work without destroying the mystery. It is a treasure of information for those who seek this way of transformation in their lives. The interviews deepen the mystery as well as the understanding of the work. Dr. Reinau’s ability to link BodySoul experience to early developmental theories and to neuroscience provides the path to her conclusion that it is all about love. A conclusion with which I am sure Marion Woodman would agree. Everyone who seriously considers understanding BodySoul work should read Love Matters for Psychic Transformation. –Patricia C. WRITING: A MANUAL FOR THE DIGITAL AGE, BRIEF 2nd Edition, is the rhetorical handbook for composing in the 21st century. Blakesley and Hoogeveen place students' writing front and center with an innovative page format that keeps students' attention focused on their own writing and on activities, checklists, projects, and visual aids that help them write. The page design and innovative visuals make information about writing, reading, research, documentation, technology, and grammar easy for students to access and understand. To accomplish their writing tasks, students are taught to ground their rhetorical decisions in the specific context in which they are writing. Because writing and reading occur both in print and online, WRITING: A MANUAL FOR THE DIGITAL AGE, BRIEF 2nd Edition, prepares students to work with images, audio, video, and print. Technology Toolbox features throughout, as well as two dedicated parts of the book (Parts 6 and 7), teach students how to compose with technology intelligently.
