There is much interest in HRD as an emerging field of study and practice in China, and the book presents the most updated insights in this regard. The emergence of human resource development in Chinese organizations is truly remarkable. In the past fifteen years, over one thousand corporate universities have been established across various Chinese organizations. The corporate university concept represents a major commitment of an organization to its employees and their learning needs. As discussed in the book, corporate university is an innovation of organizational learning. That corporate universities have been established in Chinese organizations has become a demonstrated fact. Now the challenge is to ensure that corporate universities continue to contribution to their organizations and respond to on-going changes in their respective situations. This book presents a comprehensive study of corporate universities moves readers closer to understanding the aspects of the China context and HRD as a global phenomenon.Published by SCPG Publishing Corporation and distributed by World Scientific for all markets except China

Acidification is a universal problem at all mining sites in which oxygenated water comes in contact with sulfide minerals or other reduced sulfur compounds. An International Workshop was held in September 1995 at the Department for Inland Water Research of the UFZ-Centre for Environmental Research in Magdeburg on the limnology of lakes created by open-cast lignite mining, emphasizing the often observed geogenic acidification after oxidation of pyrite. The volume has 25 chapters including a chapter with results of group discussions about the topics mentioned above and further problems that were identified during the meeting. The monograph gives a baseline of the state of science on the worldwide problem of geogenic acidification of lakes following human mining activities.

The rapid development of HPLC instrumentation and technology opens numerous possibilities - and entails new questions. Which column should I choose to obtain best results, which gradient fits to my analytical problem, what are recent and promising trends in detection techniques, what is state of the art regarding LC-MS coupling? All these questions are answered by experts in ten self-contained chapters. Besides these more hardware-related and technical chapters, further related areas of interest are covered: Comparison of recent chromatographic data systems and integration strategies, smart documentation, efficient information search in internet, and tips for a successful FDA inspection. This practical approach offers in a condensed manner recent trends and hints, and will also display the advanced reader mistakes and errors he was not aware of so far.

The global environment is changing rapidly under the impact of human activities, and an important element of this change is related to global c1imate modification. Can the study of c1imate and history help in devising strategies for coping with this change? What might be the type of information most useful in this context? What are the pitfalls awaiting the unwary? These are the kinds of questions that led us to bring together experts from the natural and social sci ences with a strong interest in history, to promote discussion between workers in different disciplines by focussing on a common topic of great interest to society. The meeting was arranged in the framework of a "Hanse Conference" within the interdisciplinary program of the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, a foundation set up to promote interdisciplinary studies in collaboration between the universities ofBremen and Oldenburg. The aim ofthe Hanse Conferences in general is to provide opportunities for experts from different fields of the sciences and humanities to come together and explore the larger framework oftopics of common interest. What unites the partici pants is their desire to look over the fence to neighboring disciplines. Young colleagues who wish to build an interdisciplinary career are particularly welcome. In the Hanse Conference on Climate and History, we have endeavoured to build bridges between the c1imate sciences and the sociological sciences concemed with environmental impacts on human activities. The geological sciences, we feIt, are especially well suited to the purpose because they al ready comprise historical aspects.

Since its inception in the early 1980s, capillary electrophoresis (CE) offers a great deal of flexibility as a modern analytical technique, and has found applications within many fields of analysis, particularly pharmaceutical science and biochemistry. Until now, food analysts have had difficulties in adopting the technique due to the lack of written guidance. Capillary Electrophoresis for Food Analysis: Method Development provides basic information and the support needed to enable food analysts to utilise the technique for the development of new separation methods. Designed specifically for the needs of food analysts, the book takes the reader step by step through the process of developing and troubleshooting CE methods. Worked examples are included to make it ideal as a laboratory companion as well as a library reference source.
