The "Thousand Voices in the Night" are friends, neighbors, strangers you pass every day, even family members. They are the wounded whose walk with the Lord has been impacted by abuse, and are searching for answers. They are the hurting with which God seeks to restore a lasting, loving, healing relationship. Debi knows because for so many years her voice was one of them. Growing up in an abusive home where she endured years of emotional, physical and sexual abuse she often wondered where God was in her life, and if He ever heard her prayers. If He did hear, did He really care? Yet hers is not a story of defeat, but of victory! Allow Debi to infect you with her zest for life, her deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ and her passion for helping others as she shares her remarkable story of a life truly redeemed. Debi resides in Athens, Alabama with her husband Harry and daughters Kimberly and Kristin. She holds a Masters in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas. For the past twenty years Debi has dedicated her life to preventing and helping others overcome the damaging effects of child abuse and domestic violence by serving with a number of various agencies and organizations including: the Army Family Advocacy Program, Family and Child Educational Services of Coffee County, the National Children's Advocacy Center, the Huntsville Association for Pastoral Care, Partnership for a Drug Free Community, and the Mental Health Center of Madison County. As a regional trainer with the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church she has assisted numerous churches of various denominations throughout Alabama develop policies and procedures to protect children in their care from being hurt. If you have been left traumatised by a break up or divorce, you may be the victim of covert psychological and emotional abuse and not even realise it yet. You might not think of lying, cheating, stealing, manipulating, and slandering as abuse because these things don’t leave bruises or broken bones. Yet this kind of callous mistreatment can leave deep moral injuries that – if left unattended – can fester for years. It happened to Margot MacCallum more than once. Only when she sought to understand why was she able to begin her journey toward healing. Drawing on her own experience, a broad sociological study of the phenomenon, and her training in mindfulness and Buddhism, she explores how to: gain a deeper understanding of the brutal realities of psychological and emotional abuse; make more space for forgiveness and understanding of your own ordeal; overcome painful thoughts and emotions that keep you from moving through victim to survivor to thriver; and achieve a deep state of calm and contentment. That mountain you are carrying? Teach yourself to put it down. Then climb it.

The traumatic affects of childhood sexual abuse can remain and recur throughout life for women who have not healed emotionally. This book by a family therapist shares stories from 18 women abused as children, explaining that healing can occur at any stage of life, and that healing, itself, occurs in stages. The author offers guidance to recognize the long-lingering potential affects of childhood sexual abuse including depression, anxiety, dissociation, and chronic shock, and she explains steps to take for recovery. Also presented are letters from women who have healed or are in recovery. Sexual abuse by men, juveniles, and female perpetrators is discussed, as is how children may act out the abusive behavior taught by perpetrators. The incidence of abuse by family members is also addressed. Duncan explains the dual dilemma—moral and legal—that women face in exposing a sexual perpetrator within the family when not protected by the legal system due to statutes of limitations. She also discusses controversial topics including false memory and disclosure of memory to the perpetrator.
